elcome to the 1000 Wells Project here at the University of California, Davis! We are simply a group of students who firmly believe that every person in this world is entitled to the basic foundation of good health—clean water. Unfortunately, nearly one billion people lack access to clean water in our world. In Africa, a continent riddled with the HIV/AIDS epidemic, 1.1 million people die yearly
due to water-related diseases such as Cholera, Guinea Worm, and Trachoma.
While these statistics seem overwhelming, there is hope. And it is both incredibly realistic and attainable. $1 alone provides one person in Africa clean water for an entire year. With your partnership, simple sacrifices we make daily can mean good health, clean drinking water, and a future for people currently living in despair.
While coordinators, volunteers, and donors may be involved because of different personal, political, or religious convictions, one thing remains true: there are billions of people desperate for clean water…and they are asking for our help. We hope that your hearts are inspired to explore this website and to join us as we attempt to bring this gift of clean water to our families half-way across the world. Remember, to Know is to Love… to Love is to ACT.
