Off Campus On Campus Freshman Advocate Events Farmers' Market 2 Weeks of Sacrifice The Dollar Campaign
The Davis 1000 Wells Project Team invites you to join us in the Two Weeks of Sacrifice, a challenge to make water your only beverage for two weeks. Here’s how it works:
  • Visit our table to pick up a 2 Weeks of Sacrifice packet. Make water your only beverage for two weeks (April 17th - May 1st, 2010). Donate money you would otherwise spend on coffee, tea, juice, milk, soda, etc, to the 1000 Wells Project.
  • Turn in money on dates designated in packet.

Conscientious students like you will make our goal possible and the vision of the 1000 Wells Project come true – to bring African communities not only clean water but hope for the possibility of a better future! Through the act of giving up these drinks, we can better appreciate the clean water available at our disposal and redirect money we would have spent anyway to giving African communities the same fundamental human right to clean drinking water.

2 Weeks Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have to drink milk?
By all means, do so. But if you can give up milk for 2 weeks, that might be another several dollars toward the saving of another life.

What if I usually buy bottled water?
Buy one. Then just for 2 weeks inconvenience yourself by continuing to refill it.

What if I only drink water anyways?
Great! Go the extra mile and consider not eating out for two weeks, and instead eat at home. Eating out can cost up to double the amount of home cooking. You can even invite friends over to share in a community meal.

What if I eat at the dining commons and don’t have to buy my drinks?
You can practice solidarity by drinking DC water instead of other beverages. You can also give up snacks from the Junction etc. and donate the money you otherwise would have spent to the 2 weeks of sacrifice.

What if I forget and drink a soda?
No problem. Just start again.

Can I keep drinking my usual stuff, but just make a donation?
That's OK. It will still help the needy, but you will miss out on the experience of sacrificing for others, and that's a big part of The 1000 Wells Project.
